Investopedia Anxiety Index
Developed the Investopedia Anxiety Index with the Investopedia data science team.
Starting from the premise that organic traffic to Investopedia’s most highly-trafficked terms is a form of revealed preference, we created an index that tracks general market sentiment.
To test our hypothesis, we used ten years of data to plot the traffic to terms that signal market exuberance or anxiety and juxtaposed that against the CBOE Volatility Index.
The results were persuasive (read about it in full here): Millions of readers who are not market experts anticipated major market moves as they endeavored to educate themselves about financial markets.
